Lock Group

How to Use the “Lock Group” Action in Botassium
Need to control the flow of messages in your WhatsApp group—such as during announcements, live events, or focused discussions? The “Lock Group” action in Botassium helps you do that by automatically restricting a selected group so that only admins can send messages.
This guide explains how to use this feature effectively for moderation, announcements, or time-controlled discussions.
What is the “Lock Group” Action?
The Lock Group node is an automation action that modifies the group settings of a selected WhatsApp group to allow only admins to send messages. Once locked:
Group members will no longer be able to send messages
Admins retain full posting rights
You can unlock the group later using the Unlock Group action
This is ideal for:
Making announcements
Running structured programs or broadcasts
Temporarily pausing open discussion
Preventing spam or off-topic messages during sensitive moments
How to Set It Up
Open or Create an Automation Flow
Go to the Automations section in your Botassium dashboard.Add the “Lock Group” Node
Drag it into your flow where you want to apply group message restrictions.Select the Group to Lock
Use the dropdown to choose a group you manage and have admin access to.Trigger It Based on Timing or Behavior
You might trigger the lock:Before posting a scheduled announcement
After detecting spam or abuse
During the night to reduce chatter
Automatically at the start of a live event
No additional setup is needed—once triggered, the group will be locked until you manually or programmatically unlock it.
Example Use Case
You run a training group and want to post daily content without distractions:
Every morning, the flow locks the group
A scheduled message sends your lesson content
After a delay or reaction, the group is optionally unlocked again
The Lock Group action works in all WhatsApp automation flows, and is especially helpful for announcements, group moderation, live sessions, controlled discussions, and spam prevention.
