Save Contact

How to Use the “Save Contact” Action in Botassium

When you want to retain a new WhatsApp user’s details for future conversations or segmentation, the “Save Contact” action in Botassium allows you to store the contact in one or both places—your connected WhatsApp account and Botassium’s CRM.

This guide walks you through how to configure this action to save the contact with a custom name, optional category, and flexible storage location.

What is the “Save Contact” Action?

The Save Contact node is an automation action that saves the current WhatsApp contact to one or more destinations, based on your selection:

  • WhatsApp + Botassium (default and most common)

  • WhatsApp only (store in your WhatsApp contact list, but not in CRM)

  • Botassium only (store in CRM without saving to WhatsApp device)

This gives you full control over how contacts are managed depending on your use case—whether for communication, CRM tracking, or both.

Key Options

1. Contact Name

You can specify a name to assign to the contact.

  • This field supports dynamic variables, such as @WhatsApp Name, @user_email, or any previously captured input.

  • Helps personalize communication and maintain accurate records in both platforms.

2. Target Location

Choose where to store the contact:

  • WhatsApp + Botassium: Adds the user to both your phone’s WhatsApp list and your Botassium CRM.

  • WhatsApp only: Adds to your WhatsApp but won’t appear in CRM filters or segmentation.

  • Botassium only: Stores the contact in CRM for future automation, tagging, and broadcasts—useful for systems where personal device contact storage isn't needed.

3. Assign to Category (optional)

If the selected target includes Botassium, you can assign the contact to a single category (e.g., “Lead”, “Webinar Attendee”, “VIP”) during the saving process.

  • Categories must be pre-created or selected via the Categories Manager, accessible directly from the node.

How to Set It Up

  1. Open or Create an Automation Flow
Go to the Automations tab in your Botassium dashboard.

  2. Add the “Save Contact” Node
Drag it into the flow wherever you want to capture and save the contact.

  3. Enter the Contact Name
Choose a static name or insert a variable from the dropdown (e.g., @WhatsApp Name or @user_name).

  4. Select the Save Target
    Choose from:

    • WhatsApp + Botassium

    • WhatsApp only

    • Botassium only

  5. (Optional) Select a Category
If you're saving the contact to Botassium, select a category to assign for easier CRM segmentation.

Example Use Case

You receive a new inquiry from a user who submits their name via an input node:

  1. Use Ask for Input to collect their name

  2. Trigger the Save Contact action

    • Set the name as @user_name

    • Save to WhatsApp + Botassium

    • Assign to the “New Leads” category

  3. The contact now appears in your phone’s WhatsApp list and your CRM, ready for follow-up or future broadcasts

The Save Contact action is available in all WhatsApp automation flows, and is especially helpful for lead capture, CRM enrichment, contact-based targeting, and long-term customer management.
