How to Use the “End Chat Session” Function in Botassium Automations

In some automation scenarios, you may want to intentionally end a chat session—for example, after completing a support request, order, or form submission. The “End Chat Session” function in Botassium allows you to end the current automation session and return the user to the beginning of the flow the next time they interact.

This helps keep conversations clean, avoids confusion, and ensures the next interaction starts fresh.

What is the “End Chat Session” Function?

The End Chat Session node is a function that terminates the user’s current session, effectively resetting the flow for the next time they send a message. Once this node is triggered, the user’s path through the automation is cleared, and any further message will start from the beginning (entry event).

This is useful for:

  • Finalizing a complete automation journey

  • Closing support or sales loops

  • Preventing users from continuing down old logic paths

  • Cleaning up session data and returning to defaults

Session Timeout Settings

Botassium also includes automatic session expiration, controlled from the Automation Settings popup. There, you can define a timeout period (e.g., 15 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours), after which a session will automatically end if the user remains inactive.

However, the End Chat Session function lets you do this manually and intentionally from any point in your flow.

How to Use It

  1. Add the “End Chat Session” Node
    Drag this node to the point in your flow where you want to conclude the conversation.

  2. (Optional) Send a Final Message
    You can place a Reply to Chat node just before it to thank the user or give a final confirmation:

    • “Thanks! Your request has been received. You can message us again anytime.”

  3. Connect It to the Previous Node
    Once triggered, this node clears the user’s active path and exits the flow.

Example Use Case

A user completes a product feedback form:

  1. They answer a series of input prompts

  2. You send a thank-you message

  3. Add End Chat Session to reset the flow

  4. The next time they message, the automation starts from the beginning

The End Chat Session function is available in all WhatsApp automation flows, and is essential for closing conversations cleanly, avoiding looped logic, resetting experiences, and guiding users back to entry points for future interactions.
