How to Use the “Mark Chat Read” Action in Botassium
In some cases, your automation may respond to a user, but you still see the chat marked as unread in your WhatsApp inbox. To keep things clean and prevent unnecessary notifications, the “Mark Chat Read” action in Botassium allows you to automatically mark a conversation as read at any point in your flow.
This guide explains how and when to use it.
What is the “Mark Chat Read” Action?
The Mark Chat Read node is an action that marks the current WhatsApp conversation as read, even if it was triggered without opening the chat manually.
Use it when:
You want to clear unread badges for conversations handled via automation
A bot has already responded and no human review is needed
You're processing bulk messages and want to reduce inbox noise
It helps maintain a clear inbox for your team and prevents confusion around whether a message was seen or handled.
How to Set It Up
Open or Create a Flow
Navigate to the Automations tab in Botassium.Add the “Mark Chat Read” Node
Drag the node into your automation at any point where you want to update the message status.Chain It After a Reply or Condition
You can mark a chat as read:After replying to the user
After checking a label or status
After confirming that no human intervention is required
The action takes effect immediately and requires no additional setup.
Example Use Case
You’ve created a support bot that replies with a help article when users send common questions. Once the bot responds:
The Reply to Chat action is triggered
Immediately after, the Mark Chat Read action marks the conversation as handled
The chat no longer appears as unread in your inbox
The Mark Chat Read action is available in all WhatsApp automation flows, and is especially useful for automation-only replies, support bots, message cleanup, and inbox clarity where human follow-up isn't required.
